THE FLATS – Cameron Tringale continued his hot start early in the 2015-16 season by tying for 14th place at last weekend’s CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The 2009 Tech graduate was the runner-up in the Shriner’s Hospital Open the week before and stands seventh in FedEx Cup points. Tringale shot a 16-under-par total of 272, including a third-round 65. Stewart Cink made a large jump up the FedEx Cup board by tying for 17th place, posting a 15-under-par 273, which was worth a 50-position move to 46th in FedEx Cup points. Chesson Hadley also represented Tech in the field, carding a 2-under-par 286 for 68th place.
Those three will take this week off at the Tour moves back state-side for the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Miss. Roberto Castro, Troy Matteson, Bryce Molder, Ollie Schniederjans and Nicholas Thompson are in the field for the event that is held opposite the World Golf Championships’ HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China. No Tech alumni are competing there.
Champions Tour – Larry Mize shot rounds of 70-66-69 (-8) to finish in a tie for 32nd in last weekend’s Toshiba Classic. It was his fifth top-25 finish in 18 tournaments this year. Mize, the 1987 Masters champion, is No. 70 in Charles Schwab Cup points.
Web.com Tour Q-School – Three second stage events are scheduled for Nov. 10-13 in Brooksville, Fla., Kingwood, Texas and McKinney, Texas, with two more set for Nov. 17-20 in Beaumont, Calif., and Plantation, Fla. Fields have not yet been set for those events, but six Tech alumni will each compete in one of them, including Anders Albertson, Drew Czuchry, John-Tyler Griffin, Shun Yat Hak, Kyle Scott and Matt Weibring.
Richard Werenski is exempt into the finals, which will be held Dec. 10-13 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
