THE FLATS – Bo Andrews, a key member of Georgia Tech’s 2013 and 2014 teams that reached match play at the NCAA Championship, made a strong run at his first pro victory over the weekend, leading for the first three rounds before settling for a fifth-place finish at the SwingThought.com National Pro Series event in New Bern, N.C.

The Raleigh, N.C., native opened with a 61 at the Emerald Golf Club on Thursday, followed with a 66 on Friday, then 70-75 on the weekend to finish two shots off the pace and earn a check for $5,000. Andrews’ low round at Tech was a 66, and he won two events while an amateur, the 2013 Gary Koch Invitational his junior year at Tech and the 2011 Greystone Invitational, a summer amateur event.

Web.com Tour: High finishes were not the order, but four of five Tech alumni made the cut at last weekend’s Nashville Golf Open, where Anders Albertson and Kyle Scott tied for 38th place with 4-under-par scores of 284. Ollie Schniederjans tied for 62nd, and Richard Werenski, a winner three weeks ago in South Carolina, finished solo 77th. They’ll be back in action this weekend at the Air Capital Classic in Wichita, Kan.

PGA Tour: Matt Kuchar was Tech’s only representative in the U.S. Open last weekend at Oakmont Country Club, and the seven-time PGA Tour winner finished with a 76 Sunday to tie for 46th after lurking among the top 20 through the first three rounds.

Kuchar takes this week off while Roberto Castro, Chesson Hadley and Cameron Tringale return to action at a two-time U.S. Open venue with the Quicken Loans National at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.

PGA Tour China: Former Tech player Shun Yat Hak, a freshman on the Yellow Jacket’s 2012-13 team which advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship, is earning money on PGA Tour China, last week tying for 21st at the Lanhai Open in Shanghai in his first start of 2016.

Amateur update: Seven different Yellow Jackets teed it up in two events last weekend. Rising sophomore Tyler Joiner and incoming freshman Andy Ogletree led the way by tying for 13th place at the Southeastern Amateur in Columbus, Ga. Rising junior James Clark finished solo 17th there, while rising senior Michael Hines tied for 22nd. Rising junior Chris Petefish tied for 35th at the Sunnehanna Amateur in Johnstown, Pa.
