@GT_Golf - #ProJackets Update

Aug. 18, 2015

THE FLATS – Matt Kuchar earned his best finish in a major this year when he tied for seventh place at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits last weekend.

The 2000 Tech graduate shot three 68s and at one point moved into the top five on Sunday in finishing with a 12-under-par 276 total. Kuchar had previously finished in a tie for 12th at the U.S. Open. The finish was worth $293,000, pushing him past $2 million for the year and improving his FedEx Cup points standing to 24th, which if he can maintain, will put him in the field for the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.

Chesson Hadley tied for 61st at 1-over-par 289 in his only major appearance of the year. He improved to 76th in FedEx Cup points, which will carry him through the first two weeks of the FedEx Cup playoffs – The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship. He needs to move into the top 70 in order to compete in the BMW Championship, the third stage of the playoffs.

Currently, six former Tech players are in position to make the field for The Barclays (Aug. 27-30) – Kuchar (24), Cameron Tringale (56), Hadley (76), Bryce Molder (88), Stewart Cink (112) and Nicholas Thompson (123). The top 100 following The Barclays advance to the Deutsche Bank Championship, the top 70 to the BMW Championship and the top 30 to the Tour Championship finale.

Cink, Hadley, Molder and Thompson are in the field for this week’s Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., the last regular-season event on the PGA Tour for 2015. They will be joined by Roberto Castro (188) and Ollie Schniederjans, who is attempting to earn the equivalent number of FedEx Cup points to the No. 200 position, which will allow him to compete in the Web.com Tour Finals, beginning Aug. 28-31 with the Hotel Fitness Championship.

WEB.COM TOUR UPDATE

Matt Weibring (T23), Richard Werenski (T51) and Troy Matteson (T51) all made the cut at last weekend’s Price Cutter Charity Classic, however, none of them are currently in position to reach the Web.com Tour Finals. The top 75 in earnings on the Web.com Tour qualify for the finals along with PGA Tour members who finish No. 126-200 in FedEx Cup points, and non-members who accumulate the equivalent number of points to finish in that range.

Weibring is currently the closest to qualifying, sitting at No. 82, while Werenski is No. 93 in his rookie season and Matteson is No. 114. They have two more events to boost their earnings, this week’s News Sentinel Open in Knoxville and next week’s WinCo Foods Portland Open in Portland, Ore.
