@GT_Golf - #ProJackets Update

Aug. 4, 2015

THE FLATS – Recent GeorgiaTech graduate Ollie Schniederjans continued to impress early in his professional career last weekend by tying for 15th place at the Quicken Loans National in Gainesville, Va.

Schniederjans opened with a 5-under-par 66 and briefly led the tournament during second round Friday morning before finishing 66-69-68-72 for a 9-under-par total of 275.

The three-time All-American now has a tie for 22nd and a tie for 15th in his two professional starts, accumulating $160,107 in earnings, which ranks 15th among non-PGA Tour members and would rank No. 192 on this year’s money list. He has an exemption into both remaining PGA Tour pre-playoff events – the Barracuda Championship this weekend in Reno, Nev., and the Wyndham Championship in two weeks in Greensboro, N.C.

Four other Yellow Jackets – Cameron Tringale (T21), Bryce Molder (T39), Chesson Hadley (70th) and Nicholas Thompson (74th) made the cut at the Quicken Loans National and earned money and FedEx Cup points.

Larry Mize (T69) and Richard Werenski (T63) made the cut on the Champions Tour and Web.com Tour, respectively, over the weekend. John-Tyler Griffin (T13) and Bo Andrews (T27) made the cut in the eGolf Tour event.

This weekend’s action on the PGA Tour is split between the World Golf Championships event in Akron, Ohio and the Barracuda Championship in Reno, Nev. Matt Kuchar, who is No. 16 in the Official World Golf Ranking, is the only former Tech player in this week’s WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. Schniederjans is joined in the Barracuda field by Molder, Thompson, Roberto Castro, David Duval and Troy Matteson.

“He was so nervous in his professional debut at the RBC Canadian Open that he led the field in birdies (26), birdies-or-better percentage (56.52), strokes gained: putting (8.757), one-putt percentage (58.33) and average distance of putts made per round (104 feet, five inches). Whew! He placed T22 due to ranking T43 in greens hit and 72nd in scrambling, but the former top-ranked amateur in the world didn’t miss a beat in his transition from closing out that phase of his career with a T12 at The Open Championship.”Rob Bolton of PGA Tour.com on Ollie Schniederjans’ professional debut
