THE FLATS – Cameron Tringale came within a stroke of his first PGA Tour victory last weekend when he finished second at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with a 21-under-par score of 267.

The 2009 Tech graduate found himself in the lead on the back nine, but a bogey at the par-4 13th set him back, and Justin Rose birdied the final two holes to capture the win. Tringale had an eagle try to tie Rose with a chip at the 18th but came up 17 inches short. It was his second top-10 finish and boosted him over $1 million in earnings for the season, and up to 24th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Meanwhile, Chesson Hadley shot 66-66 on the weekend and finished in a tie for eighth place at 17-under 271, his third top-10 of the year. He moved up to 66th in FedEx Cup points. Bryce Molder also earned a healthy check with a tie for 33rd place (13-under 275).

Only Matt Kuchar, who did not place in New Orleans, is in action this week as part of the field for the second World Golf Championship event of 2015, the Cadillac Match Play Championship in San Francisco, Calif.

Larry Mize and Hal Sutton tied for 15th place at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf at Big Cedar Lodge, teaming for an 11-under-par score of 167, eight shots off the pace of Billy Andrade and Joe Durant.

John-Tyler Griffin cashed a check with a tie for 26th place in the eGolf Tour’s Sedgefield Classic, while Shun Yat Hak (T31st) and James White (T44th) picked up checks at the Killearn Country Club Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.
