Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

Sept. 19, 2017

THE FLATS – Matt Kuchar has made it back to Atlanta for the ninth consecutive year and will be in the 30-player field for this week’s Tour Championship at Bobby Jones’ home golf course, East Lake Golf Club. Meanwhile, Chesson Hadley picked up his second Web.com Tour win of 2017 by capturing the Albertson’s Boise Open.

The 2000 Georgia Tech graduate and three-time All-American posted his eighth top-10 finish of the season last weekend at the BMW Championship, tying for fifth place with a 15-under-par total of 269 (67-68-67-67). The performance lifted him to 12th place in FedEx Cup points, which at the moment is his highest standing since 2014. By making it to East Lake, and with his Official World Golf Ranking of No. 13 he has earned exemptions into all of the 2018 major championships. He also has surpassed $41 million in official earnings for his career.

The flip side, however, is that Stewart Cink and Ollie Schniederjans did not advance to East Lake. Cink finished 53rd in FedEx Cup points, his highest finish since 2009, and is fully exempt for 2017-18. Schniederjans finished his rookie campaign at No. 60.

Matt Kuchar cards an eagle at the eighth hole in the third round of the BMW Championship.

Web.com Tour: Not content to rest on his laurels after winning the LECOM Health Challenge in early July and locking up his PGA Tour card for 2017-18 at the end of the regular season, Chesson Hadley made a late back-nine charge Sunday with birdies on three of his last four holes to secure his second victory of the season at the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft Nabisco, the second of four Web.com Tour Finals events. Hadley entered the day five shots back of the lead but posted the round of the day with a 6-under 65 to edge Ted Potter, Jr. and Jonathan Randolph by one shot with a 16-under 268 total for his fourth career Web.com Tour victory.

Meanwhile, Cameron Tringale (tied for 25th at Boise) and Roberto Castro (tied for 29th) continued to battle for a position among the top 25 earners in the Web.com Tour Finals. Castro moved up to 37th in earnings with two events to go, and Tringale is tied for 43rd. Seth Reeves, who missed the cut, is the next highest at 45th.

Watch Chesson Hadley’s interview following his victory Sunday at the Albertson’s Boise Open.

Elsewhere: Larry Mize posted one of his best finishes of the season with a tie for 11th at last weekend’s Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship in Vancouver, British Columbia. He fired rounds of 69-68-68 (-5) and finished six shots off the pace of Jerry Kelly. The PGA Tour Champions’ regular season comes to a close this coming weekend, and Mize is 55th in the Schwab Cup race … James White tied for 34th place last week in Freedom 55 Financial Championship, the final event of the season on the MacKenzie Tour, where he finished 45th in the order of merit. The top five received 2018 exemptions on the Web.com Tour.
