THE FLATS – Anders Albertson and Ollie Schniederjans became the fifth and sixth former Georgia Tech players to qualify for the final stage of the Web.com Tour Q-School by advancing out of their respective second-stage events last week in Plantation, Fla., and Beaumont, Calif.
Albertson tied for eighth place last week in Plantation, Fla. The 2015 Tech graduate and two-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion shot rounds of 71-69-69-69 to finish at 6-under-par 278 at the Plantation Reserve Golf Course. Schniederjans rallied from an opening 76 to fire rounds of 69-70-69 for a 4-under-par 284 and grab one of the 25 spots that moved on from Beaumont, Calif.
The week before, Kyle Scott advanced out of the second-stage event in Kingwood, Texas, while Paul Haley qualified out of McKinney, Texas. They join Richard Werenski and Matt Weibring, 2015 Web.com Tour members, in the finals that will be conducted Dec. 10-13 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
PGA Tour – Three Yellow Jackets made the cut at last weekend’s RSM Classic in Sea Island, Ga., the final tournament of the seven fall PGA Tour events. Matt Kuchar led the way on his home course by tying for 25th place at 8-under-par 274, while Roberto Castro (277, -5) tied for 52nd and Stewart Cink (279 (-3) tied for 63rd.
Castro, who played mostly on exemptions last year and finished fourth in the Web.com Finals to earn back his PGA Tour card, completed the fall portion of the schedule 38th in FedEx Cup points. He made the cut in all five events in which he entered, posted one top-10 finish and two top-25s.
