THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech All-American Seth Reeves earned a season-long exemption on the MacKenzie Tour (formerly PGA Tour Canada/Canadian Tour) last weekend by winning the first of four qualifying events last weekend at the Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla.
The 2014 Tech graduate shot rounds of 66-70-73-67 for a 72-hole total of 276, three shots ahead of Sam Love. He was one of 41 players to earn some level of status on the tour.
“It’s huge,” said Reeves. “Not having to worry about the re-shuffle or anything is pretty cool, but knowing what I’m going to do this summer is great. I haven’t been up in Canada very much, so I’m excited to join the tour and have some fun and have a good summer.”
Shun Yat Hak, who played with Reeves and the Yellow Jackets as a freshman in 2013-14, has conditional status on the MacKenzie Tour after finishing in a tie for 32nd at Reunion. Three more qualifying schools take place over the next three weeks, this weekend in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and two more in Canada.

After winning two matches and halving one in the group stage, Matt Kuchar lost in the round of 16, 1-up to former Florida State star Brooks Koepka, who made birdie to win the 17th hole after Kuchar had battled back from a 2-hole deficit on the back nine. Both players birdied the 18th to give the win to Koepka, who lost in the next round to eventual champion Jason Day.
Bryce Molder and Chesson Hadley played in the PGA Tour’s alternate event, the Puerto Rico Open, where Molder tied for 47th place (286, -2) and made a modest gain to No. 106 in the FedEx Cup standings. Hadley missed the cut.
Hadley (174th in FedEx Cup points) and Molder (106th) are in this week’s Shell Houston Open field along with Robert Castro (95), Stewart Cink (122) and Cameron Tringale (55).
The Web.com Tour and the PGA Tour Champions both resume after a week off. Anders Albertson, Ollie Schniederjans, Kyle Scott and Richard Werenski will tee it up at the Brasil Champions event in Sao Paulo.
