Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

May 30, 2017

THE FLATS – Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar enjoyed strong weekend finishes at last weekend’s DEAN & DELUCA Invitational on a golf course they both know well and enjoy playing, Colonial Country Club.

Both players have posted runner-up finishes in the event, Cink in 2000 and Kuchar in 2013. Cink tied for 10th place in his 17th appearance on the Colonial course, firing a 66 on Saturday to get in contention, and bumped himself up to 63rd in FedEx Cup points. It was his second top-10 finish this year.

Kuchar, who has made nine cuts in 10 appearances at Colonial, shot 68-67 on the weekend to tie for 12th and edge ahead to 39th in points. It was his fourth-best finish of the year.

Ollie Schniederjans (T29) and Cameron Tringale (72nd) both made the cut as well. Schniederjans (see two segments from the Inside the PGA Tour program below) continued a solid rookie campaign with an even-par 280 for the tournament and stands 44th in FedEx Cup points.

The Tour moves to Columbus, Ohio this week for The Memorial Tournament, hosted by Jack Nicklaus. Roberto Castro returns to action after a two-week break, joined by Cink, Kuchar and Schniederjans. Molder is an alternate.

Following his third-round 66 at the 2017 DEAN & DELUCA Invitational, Stewart Cink talks about the great challenges the Colonial Country Club brings.

In the second round of the 2017 DEAN & DELUCA Invitational, Matt Kuchar holes his 15-foot birdie putt on the par-5 11th hole.

Family bonding for the Schniederjans’ at Ollie’s alma mater
On a return visit to his alma mater, Ollie Schnierjans spends some quality time with his brothers, who are both student athletes at Georgia Tech.

Hatless Ollie Schniederjans
In his time on the PGA TOUR, Ollie Schniederjans has developed a unique style of not wearing headwear while he’s in between the ropes. The former All-American from Georgia Tech sported the same look in college and provides the reasoning into why he goes cap-less on the course.

Web.com Tour: After staging just nine events over the first five months of the season, the Web.com Tour kicks off a stretch of 14 consecutive weeks with this weekend’s Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh, N.C. The Yellow Jackets’ four Web.com Tour regulars – Anders Albertson, Chesson Hadley, Seth Reeves and Nicholas Thompson are in the field along with Raleigh native Bo Andrews.

Hadley, also a Raleigh native, won this event in 2013 on his way to winning the Web.com Tour Championship. Thompson currently is the highest-ranked among the former Yellow Jackets in earnings (19th); the top 25 at the end of the season earn PGA Tour cards for 2017-18.

Four former Jackets – Drew Czuchry, J.T. Griffin and recent graduate Vincent Whaley, as well as current Jackets Chris Petefish and Luke Schniederjansattempted to Monday-qualify for the event at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, but came up short.

PGA Tour Champions: Larry Mize made a strong bid to win the senior tour’s second major event of 2017 last weekend, opening with a 65 and standing in a tie for fifth entering the final round of the Senior PGA Championship in Washington, D.C., But the 1987 Masters champion stumbled to a 75 on Sunday and settled for a tie for 11th. It was his second-best finish of the season and moved him up to 45th in the Schwab Cup standings.

MacKenzie Tour: The Canadian Tour kicks off its 11-event schedule this weekend with the Freedom 55 Financial Open in Vancouver, British Columbia, and 2012 Tech graduate James White is in the field to begin the first leg of the schedule on the strength of his 12th-place finish in the tour’s qualifying school earlier this month.
