Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

Jan. 17, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech alumni were out in force on the first big weekend on the PGA Tour and Web.com Tours, with eight players competing and seven cuts made. All four former Yellow Jackets – Ollie Schniederjans, Stewart Cink, Richy Werenski and Bryce Molder – who were in the field made the cut at the Sony Open in Hawai’i.

Schniederjans picked up where he left off in a strong finish the fall portion of the schedule, tying for 27th place with a 72-hole total of 269 (-11) and moved up to 62nd in FedEx Cup points. Stewart Cink also continued his resurgence from the fall, tying for 36th place, just a shot behind Schniederjans, and is 39th on the FedEx Cup points list. Richy Werenski and Bryce Molder, who carded a second-round 61, tied for 49th place.

All four of those Jackets move to the mainland United States along with Roberto Castro and Cameron Tringale for this week’s Career Builder Challenge. All six former Tech stars are among the top 125 in FedEx Cup points as the West Coast swing begins in LaQuinta, Calif.

In the second round of the 2017 Sony Open in Hawaii, Ollie Schniederjans finds the cup from long distance for a 43-foot birdie putt on the par-4 12th hole.

Following a second-round 61, Bryce Molder reflects on his play in the 2017 Sony Open in Hawaii with Bill Rosinski from PGA TOUR Radio.

Web.com Tour: Nicholas Thompson began his 2017 Web.com Tour season in fine fashion, nearly pulling off a victory at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic in Emerald Bay. Thompson shot an even-par 288 to tie for second, two shots behind his namesake, Kyle Thompson. Thompson was one of four Yellow Jackets in the field, where Chesson Hadley tied for 11th (294) and Anders Albertson tied for 32nd (300) on the difficult Sandals Emerald Bay Course. Web.com Tour rookie Seth Reeves missed the cut. The tour remains on the Bahamas for the Great Abaco Classic next weekend.

PGA Tour LatinoAmerica: Bo Andrews tied for 22nd place at the PTLA Qualifying Tournament in Sebring, Fla., to earn status on the PGA Tour LatinoAmerica for 2017. The 2013 Tech graduate shot a 72-hole total of 284 (-4). The event is one of four PTLA qualifying tournaments being conducted this month before the 2017 season begins.
