THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech star Matt Weibring notched his first top-25 finish of the year with a tie for 20th place at last weekend’s United Leasing Championship at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind.
Only 18 golfers were able to match or break par in the event, in which Weibring finished 72 holes in 1-over-par 289, 11 shots off the lead. He moved up to 99th in Web.com Tour earnings this year, a significant jump. Richard Werenski missed the cut after shooting 77-74.
Matt Kuchar and Larry Mize were the only other former Yellow Jackets in action on one of the PGA Tour-sponsored events last weekend. Mize tied for 30th place at the Insperity Invitational on the Champions Tour, while Kuchar did not make it out of pool play at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship in San Francisco, going 1-2.
Kyle Scott and John-Tyler Griffin both earned top-20 finishes at the Forest Oaks Classic on the eGolf Tour. Scott tied for 12th place at 7-under-par 281, while Griffin tied for 18th at 4-under 284.
