THE FLATS – Matt Kuchar tied for third place, while Stewart Cink and Nicholas Thompson both finished in the top 50 at last weekend’s Sony Open, the PGA Tour’s first full-field event of 2015.

Kuchar finished at 13-under-par 267 after rounds of 65-63-68-71, jumping 25 spots to No. 21 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Cink also made a major gain by tying for 37th place, moving up 18 spots to No. 83 in the FedEx Cup after posting a 7-under-par total of 273 (69-69-65-70). Thompson tied for 44th place at 6-under-par 274 (69-67-66-72) and stands No. 36 in FedEx Cup points.

Those three players join Chesson Hadley, Bryce Molder and Cameron Tringale in the field this week as the Tour moves to the mainland for the Humana Challenge in LaQuinta, Calif.

In other news, Ollie Schniederjans went abroad to play in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, missing the cut after rounds of 76-75. He has an exemption to play in the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour March 12-15 in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Kuchar comes in at No. 3 among the favorites in the PGA Tour Power Rankings for this week’s Humana Challenge.
