Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

Jan. 30, 2018

THE FLATS – Seth Reeves celebrated his recent wedding by posting an 11-under-par total of 277 and tied for 10th place at last weekend’s Great Abaco Classic … Chesson Hadley holds FedEx Cup position with a solid performance at the Farmers Insurance Open … This and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report.

Reeves earned the third top-10 finish for his career and his best since his tie for seventh at last year’s Air Capital Classic. He opened with a 66 to share the first round lead with three others, then finished 69-70-72 at the Web.com Tour’s second event of the season.

The 26-year-old from Atlanta and a 2013 Georgia Tech graduate, missed the opening event to spend his honeymoon in Costa Rica. In his rookie season on Tour, Reeves made 10 cuts in 25 starts and posted two top-10s. He ended the season No. 60 on the money list retaining his card for 2018.

“It’s frustrating, to put in the work and then kind of not get paid,” Reeves told PGATour.com. “To not see the fruit of your labor, but eventually it’s going to come together, and I needed time off to find some of those answers, and I kind of found them, and with the added experience that I had last year, it’s going be a completely better season, because everything is working for me now, as if last year everything was working against me.”

One thing Reeves did in the offseason, besides get married on New Year’s Eve, was alter with his equipment. The only club that made the cut from 2017 was his putter. The drastic change has reinvigorated Reeves as he looks to make his mark in 2018.

“I’ve got new woods, irons, wedges, switched balls,” he said. “I mean, everything, but I just felt like, I remember telling my coach at end of last year, this needs to be the most productive offseason of my life because so many things were wrong. I was almost lost throughout most of the season, just not hitting it well, and I knew I needed to find something different in my swing, really figure out what was wrong, and change some equipment because I knew that was off, but I just didn’t know what, and I felt like I found those answers this offseason.”

Anders Albertson (T25) and Roberto Castro (T48) also earned checks, making it three of four Yellow Jackets to make the cut.

Following his opening-round 66 at The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at Abaco Club, Seth Reeves discusses what he learned last season and how it will help him in 2018.

Happy wife. Happy life. @seth_reeves and college sweetheart Patricia Ford got married on New Year's Eve, missed Exuma for his honeymoon in Costa Rica. First round as married man, Reeves shoots 6-under-par 66 to tie for the lead after Sunday @BahamasWebTour @TheAbacoClub pic.twitter.com/IFoqOUr9rO

The annual PGA Tour stop at venerable Torrey Pines Golf Club for the Farmers Insurance Open proved more difficult for the five former Jackets in the field. Chesson Hadley held firm all weekend with rounds of 71-72-71-71 to tie for 23rd place and maintain his 13th-place position in FedEx Cup points, and Cameron Tringale tied for 58th after a 3-over-par performance. Richy Werenski and Ollie Schniederjans each shot even-par the first two days but couldn’t make the cut, nor did Stewart Cink after carding 1-over-par for the first two days.

The Tour moves to Scottsdale, Ariz., this week for the Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, where Matt Kuchar returns to action after a trip to Abu Dhabi two weeks ago. He joins Hadley, Schniederjans and Werenski in the field.
