Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

March 13, 2018

THE FLATS – Three former Yellow Jackets made the cut at last weekend’s Valspar Championship, maintaining their position in the FedEx Cup race … Tech went 4-for-4 in made cuts at the Web.com Tour El Bosque Mexico Championship … this and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

Stewart Cink (T31), Matt Kuchar (T40) and Ollie Schniederjans (T49) made it through to the weekend at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla. Only Cink, with a 66 in the final round, and Kuchar, with a 69 on Sunday, were able to break 70 on the difficult Copperhead course, where Paul Casey emerged as the winner at 10-under-par 274. Cink and Kuchar are 90th and 91st, respectively, on the FedEx Cup points list, while Schniederjans is 40th.

Chesson Hadley, who sits at 19th on the FedEx Cup list, and Richy Werenski missed the cut, while Cameron Tringale had the week off. Current Tech sophomore Tyler Strafaci played the event on a sponsor’s exemption for winning last spring’s Valspar Collegiate Invitational, and shot 75-76, missing the cut.

The Tour moves inland to Orlando this week for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where Cink, Hadley and Schniederjans are in the field at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge.

In the opening round of the 2018 Valspar Championship, Matt Kuchar sinks a 26-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th hole.

Learned on @GolfChannel yours truly is most cumulative over par (+17) among all players on 17th hole since @ValsparChamp has been played at Innisbrook Copperhead course. #nosuchthingasbadpublicity Played it +1 this week, feels like a big step forward!

Web.com Tour: All four Tech alums in the field made the cut and finished in the top 50 last weekend at the El Bosque Mexico Championship, led by Seth Reeves, who rebounded from a pair of missed cuts to tie for 18th place at 7-under-par 281. Roberto Castro tied for 29th place, while Nicholas Thompson tied for 34th and Anders Albertson tied for 48th. All but Albertson moved up in Web.com Tour earnings, where Reeves ranks 48th and Albertson 49th. The top 25 at the end of the season earn PGA Tour cards for 2018-19.

The tour take a week off this week and resumes next weekend with the Chitimacha Louisiana Open.

PGA Tour Champions: Larry Mize tied for 50th place at last weekend’s Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, Calif. He ranks 65th in earnings this season.
