Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

Sept. 26, 2017

See Matt Kuchar’s complete Presidents Cup record here.

THE FLATS – With the PGA Tour season now over, Matt Kuchar and 11 other PGA Tour stars turn their attention to the Presidents Cup, which begins Thursday at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J. Meanwhile, Chesson Hadley looks to continue his hot streak at the season-ending Web.com Tour Championship and gain fully exempt status on the PGA Tour for next season.

A veteran stalwart of international competition, this is Kuchar’s fourth time playing for the United States in the Presidents Cup, to go along with four appearances with the American team in the Ryder Cup. At age 39, he is third oldest member of this year’s team (Phil Mickelson, 47, is the oldest, and Charley Hoffman, 40, is next). A Georgia Tech player has played in every Presidents Cup since 2005, and every Ryder Cup since 1999.

Kuchar’s international resume also includes the 2016 Olympic Games and the World Cup of Golf (2011, 2013) as a professional. As an amateur, Kuchar represented the United States in the 1999 Walker Cup, the 1998 World Amateur Team Championship and the 1998 and 1999 Palmer Cup.

Competition begins Thursday with five foursomes matches in the afternoon, followed by five four-ball matches on Friday, another round of foursomes (four matches) and a second round of four-ball matches (four matches) on Saturday and 12 singles matches Sunday.

Kuchar played his usual excellent golf over the weekend at the Tour Championship, posting rounds of 69-71-67-67 to finish in a tie for 10th and complete the 2017-18 PGA Tour schedule at No. 14 on the FedEx Cup points list. He has played his last eight rounds in a combined 21-under-par and holds the 13th-best scoring average on Tour.

In the final round of the 2017 TOUR Championship, Matt Kuchar knocks his 194-yard approach in tight setting up a tap-in birdie on the par-4 1st hole.

Web.com Tour: Chesson Hadley leads The Finals 25 after finishing ninth in earnings during the regular season, and also holds the top position in combined earnings from the regular season plus finals. Hadley already has his PGA Tour card for 2017-18, but can gain full exempt status by holding that spot. With $559,350, Hadley leads the combined money list by more than $170,000 and can only lose that position by missing the cut this week at the Web.com Tour Championship in Atlantic Beach, Fla.

Hadley lost the DAP Championship in Beachwood, Ohio last weekend in a three-man playoff after firing 64-68-69 over the final three rounds to finish at 8-under-par 272. Nicholas Lindheim made birdie on the first playoff hole to grab the victory over Hadley and Rob Oppenheim. Lindheim and Oppenheim locked up their PGA Tour cards in the process.

In the Web.com Finals, Hadley has finished 10th, won and tied for second place, posting a combined score of 31-under-par.

Following his second-round 64 at the 2017 DAP Championship, Chesson Hadley is looking for his second consecutive victory and third of the season on the Web.com Tour.

Elsewhere: Larry Mize tied for 36th in the Pure Insurance Championship last weekend on the Monterrey Peninsula, and stands 55th in Schwab Cup earnings for 2017. The PGA Tour Champions now takes a three-week break before the SAS Championship the weekend of Oct. 13-15 and then the three-event Schwab Cup playoffs.
