Yellow Jacket Golfers Tied for Ninth After 36 Holes at Jerry Pate Intercollegiate

Birmingham, Ala. – The Georgia Tech golf team was one of 10 teams under par on Monday in the first two rounds, led by a pair of rookies in Roberto Castro and Kevin Larsen, both of whom are tied for 26th place, but is still tied for ninth place at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala. The 54-hole event is being contested at the par-71, 6,958-yard Old Overton Golf Club.

The Yellow Jackets, who are using their fourth different lineup of the year, posted a team score of 2-under-par, 284-282-566 over the first 36 holes and are tied with host Alabama (290-276-566) entering Tuesday’s final round. That score is 21 shots off the blistering pace of team leaders Oklahoma State (277-268-545) and Wake Forest (275-270-545), both of which are tied at 23-under-par through two rounds.

In the individual standings, both Castro and Larsen are tied for 26th place at 1-under-par to lead Tech. Larsen opened the day with a 3-under-par score of 68, but dropped two shots over the second 18 to stand at 68-73-141. Castro was solid in the second round, carding a 2-under-par 69 to finish the day at 72-69-141. Those scores are 12 shots off the lead of Bill Haas of Wake Forest, who is at an outstanding 13-under-par, 63-66-129 after the second round.

The next Yellow Jacket individual in the field is junior Chan Wongluekiet, who is tied for 39th place at 2-over-par, 71-73-144. He is followed by sophomore Thomas Jordan, who fired a second round score of 4-under-par, 67 and is tied for 42nd place at 78-67-145. The final member of the Tech contingent is sophomore Mike Barbosa, who is tied for 48th place at 73-74-147.

The Jerry Pate Intercollegiate will conclude with the final round of play on Tuesday. Full tournament results are available at www.rolltide.com
