Tringale Paces Tech at UH-Hilo Golf

Feb. 7, 2007

ATLANTA –

Cameron Tringale shot a career-best 6-under-par 64 Wednesday and is tied for first place individually, while 20th-ranked Georgia Tech posted an 8-under-par 272 team score and is tied for third place after the first round of the UH-Hilo Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii.

The Yellow Jackets are trying to win this event for the sixth time in 10 trips to the Big Island.

Tringale, a sophomore from Laguna Niguel, Calif., carded his seventh subpar round in 15 this year and bettered his previous best round by one shot, a 65 on the same Waikoloa Village Golf Club course last year on the way to a one-shot victory. He is tied with Stanford’s Joseph Bramlett, two shots ahead of a group of seven players at 4-under 66.

Roberto Castro, a senior from Alpharetta, fired a 3-under 67 and is in a group of five players tied for 10th place. His performance and that of Tringale helped Tech tie for the third-best team round of the day with Arizona State, four shots back of No. 2 Stanford (268).

Oregon State is in second place at 270. Defending national champion Oklahoma State is tied with UC-Davis at 273.

Sophomore Adam Cohan shot an even-par 70 for Tech and is tied for 47th place. Freshman Chesson Hadley, playing in his first event, came in at 71 and is tied for 55th, while classmate Daniel Bowden is tied for 70th after a 73.

Round two is scheduled for Thursday, and the final round Friday.
