Three Golfers Named to Academic All-ACC Team

July 16, 2008

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s David Dragoo, Taylor Hall and Cameron Tringale, three-fifths of the Yellow Jackets’ spring starting five, secured spots on the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Golf Team, announced Wednesday by ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Hall, a junior from LaGrange, Ga., and a 3.20 student in Management, was named to the team for the third time in his career. Tringale, a junior from Laguna Niguel, Calif., and a 3.26 student in Management, made it for the second time. Dragoo, a junior from Scottsdale, Ariz., is a 3.6 student in Economics. All three players were named All-America Scholars last week by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Tringale is one of three members of the All-Academic team who also earned All-ACC honors for their golf performance in 2008, joining Florida State’s Jonas Blixt and Virginia Tech’s Jurrian van der Vaart. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Boston College was represented by four players while Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Virginia Tech claimed three players each. ACC Champion Florida State along with Duke claimed two honorees, while Clemson, Maryland and Wake Forest landed one player each to round out the 20-member team. Ten golfers were repeat honorees from the 2007 All-ACC Academic team.
