Sept. 14, 2013

Complete Results and Sunday Tee Times

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Seth Reeves shot a pair of 3-under-par 69s Saturday to grab the individual lead, and fourth-ranked Georgia Tech shot 12-under-par as a team to open a 15-shot lead after 36 holes in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate golf tournament.

The Yellow Jackets, gunning for their first back-to-back tournament victories since the 2001-02 academic year, shot 5-under 283 in the morning round, taking a 1-shot lead over NC State, and 7-under-281 in the afternoon. Tech was the only one of the 14 teams to break par in the afternoon round on the 7,242-yard, par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course, enabling the Jackets (12-under 564) to take a wide lead into Sunday’s final 18 holes.

The Wolfpack are a distant second at 579 (+3), followed by UNC Greensboro at 582 (+6), and host North Carolina and Duke are tied for fourth at 583 (+7).

Tech has four of the top 11 individuals after 36 holes. Reeves, at 6-under-par 138, has a one-stroke lead individually over teammate and fellow senior Richard Werenski, who put together rounds of 71-68. Ollie Schniederjans (71-72) is tied for sixth at 1-under 143, and Anders Albertson (72-72) is in a group of four golfers tied for eighth at even-par 144.

If Tech can maintain its lead Sunday, it will be the first time that the Yellow Jackets have won back-to-back tournaments since the 2001-02 academic year, when Tech won four in a row. If Reeves can maintain his lead or Werenski can win, it will be the first time since 2001-02 that the individual champion in back-to-back tournaments has been a Yellow Jacket. That year, Troy Matteson was the champion in three straight spring events in which Tech participated. He would win the NCAA individual title at the end of that spring, and Tech was the runner-up.
