Tech Golfers Sixth With Play Halted at The Ridges

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Led by a 2-under-par score by junior Chan Wongluekiet, the Georgia Tech golf team is in sixth place after two rounds of play at the Bank of Tennessee at The Ridges in Jonesborough, Tenn. The 54-hole tournament is being contested at the par-72, 7,147-yard Ridges Golf and Country Club. Play was halted due to darkness at 8 p.m., with six teams yet to conclude their second round.

The Yellow Jackets opened the day with a 5-over-par score of 293, before bouncing back in the second round for an even-par 288, to finish the day with a score of 293-288-581. That total is 11 shots off the pace of team leader Florida, which was the only team under par on the day, as the Gators are at 6-under-par, 290-280-570.

Wongluekiet turned in a steady day to open the 2004 season, as he carded a part of 1-under-par 71s, to stand among four players in sixth place at 2-under-par, 71-71-142. His score is seven shots behind individual leader Bill Haas of Wake Forest, who is in the lead at 9-under-par, with three holes to play in his second round.

The next Tech individual in the field is junior Nicholas Thompson, who opened with the low round of the day for the Jackets, a 2-under-par score of 70. He finished the day at 1-under-par, 70-73-143, and is one of seven players tied for 10th place. Thompson is followed by rookie Roberto Castro, who made a strong debut with a 1-over-par score of 72-73-145 to stand among five players in 22nd place.

The final two members of the Yellow Jacket contingent are sophomores Thomas Jordan and Mike Barbosa. Jordan bounced back in the second round after an opening 80, to card a 1-under-par 71 and is tied for 68th place at 80-71-151. Barbosa is tied for 84th place with a 36-hole score of 82-77-159.
