Waikoloa, Hawai’i – James White fired a 6-under-par 66, and 5th-ranked Georgia Tech posted a 6-under 282 Thursday and stands in fourth place after two rounds of the Amer Ari Invitational golf tournament.

Oklahoma State took control of the tournament at the 7,074-yard Wailokoa Kings’ Course with a 15-under-par 273 for the day. The 4th-ranke Cowboys, at 25-under 551 for 36 holes, have a seven-shot lead over No. 2 UCLA (18-under 558), who matched the Cowboys’ score for the round. No. 22 Texas Tech (17-under 559) is in third after a 13-under 275 for its round.

Tech is another shot back at 16-under 560, tied for fourth with No. 7 Texas.

“We got off to a good start again today, but we didn’t take advantage of the scoring holes,” said head coach Bruce Heppler. “The wind picked up and the finish was tough, so we needed a little more to spare from the easier stretch.”

White, a junior from Acworth, Ga., had eight birdies on his card Thursday, three in a row on the front side at one point, and four more on the back without a bogey in posting his second best round of the year. He moved into the top 10 individually, tied for ninth place with a 6-under-par score of 138.

Paul Haley birdied three of his last six holes to post a 70, and Kyle Scott carded an even-par 72 Thursday. John-Tyler Griffin, who shot a 67 in the opening round, stumbled to a 74 Thursday after posting a pair of double bogeys to counter five birdies. He dropped to a tie for 23rd at 3-under 141. Freshman Richard Werenski shot a 75 and did not count for the Jackets on Thursday.

“We got a great round from James today, and Paul was solid,” added Heppler. “We expect a big-time shootout tomorrow.”

Oregon’s Daniel Miernicki followed up his first-round 62 with a 69 and maintained a two-shot lead in the individual race at 13-under 131. Kevin Tway of Oklahoma State is in second at 11-under 133. A total of 48 players are under par through 36 holes.

The final begins with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time Friday.
