Sept. 29, 2015
THE FLATS – Matt Kuchar finished his 2014-15 PGA Tour season in solid fashion, tying for 10th place at the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. The 2000 Tech graduate and seven-time PGA Tour winner was progressively better each day, firing rounds of 71-70-69-68 for a 2-under-par total of 278.
He finished the year No. 19 in FedEx Cup points and accumulated more than $2.77 million in earnings. He has earned invitations into all four majors for 2016 by making the Tour Championship field. He is nearing $34 million in career earnings over 15 years on tour.
Kuchar turns his attention next to the Presidents Cup, a biennial competition between the United States and an International team composed of the top professional players from around the world outside of Europe. Kuchar is a member of the USA team for the third straight year, qualifying for the squad on points. He and Tiger Woods paired for foursomes and four-ball matches last year, winning three times.
Web.com Tour – Roberto Castro continued to solidify his standing in the Web.com Tour Finals last weekend, tying for second place at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, the third of four Finals events. The 2007 Tech graduate led by two shots after 54 holes and finished the tournament at 3-under-par 281. Castro moved up to fourth in earnings for the Web.com Tour Finals, and the top 25 will earn PGA Tour cards along with the top 25 earners during the regular season. See the link below on how the final priority is determined.
The final event in the Web.com Tour Finals is this weekend, the Web.com Tour Championship, which will be held at Dye’s Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Another group of Yellow Jackets are preparing for the first stage of the Web.com Tour Q-School. The first stage will be contested at 12 different sites, four on Oct. 6-9, five on Oct. 13-16 and the final three on Oct. 13-16. Anders Albertson, Bo Andrews and Drew Czuchry advanced out of pre-qualifying events two weeks ago. John-Tyler Griffin, Seth Reeves, Kyle Scott and James White, who have played this summer mostly in eGolf and SwingThought.com events, also are in the first stage. Troy Matteson, Matt Weibring and Richard Werenski, who had full Web.com Tour status this year but did not qualify for the finals, will begin Q-School either in the first or second stage.
SwingThought.com Tour – Seth Reeves is in this weekend’s Pro Series event at the RTJ Trails at Highland Oaks, with a 50-player field at one of the four first stage sites for the Web.com Q-School.
European Tour – Stewart Cink and Ollie Schniederjans have received invitations to play in this weekend’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which will be played at three courses – the Old Course at St. Andrews, site of this year’s Open Championship where Cink tied for 20th and Schniederjans tied for 12th, as well as Carnoustie, another Open rota course, and Kingsbarns.
