THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech stars Bryce Molder and Richard Werenski made it interesting on the weekend in their respective PGA Tour and Web.com Tour events, posting big Saturday rounds to get them into contention.
Molder fired a 7-under-par 71 on Saturday at TPC Scottsdale to launch him into the race for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, but the Tech four-time All-American went even-par 71 on Sunday and tied for sixth place (275, -9), five shots off the leaders Hideki Matsuyama and Rickie Fowler. Chesson Hadley also made the cut and tied for 60th place (+3).
Werenski challenged for the title in the Club Colombia Championship in Bogota by closing with rounds of 66-68 on the weekend, but came up one stroke short at 11-under 273. Sebastian Munoz took the title at 12-under 272. Troy Matteson also earned a paycheck in Colombia, tyhing for 48th (283, -1).
The PGA Tour goes back up the West Coast to Pebble Beach Golf Links this weekend for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Stewart Cink, no doubt inspired by his 94-foot putt across the hardwood at McCamish Pavilion (see below) on Feb. 2, returns to competition after a week off and is in the field along with Hadley, Molder, Roberto Castro, David Duval and Nicholas Thompson.
The Web.com Tour is off until March 17-20, when the tour returns to the States with the Chitimacha Louisiana Open.

Stewart Cink returned to his alma mater, Georgia Tech, and sank a 94-foot putt as part of a halftime promotion. Watch him “Cink” the 94-foot putt in this ACC Must See Moment!

Cink’s putt ranked No. 4 on that night’s ESPN Sports Center Top 10, was shared on many golf websites and was shown on NBC’s Today show the next morning. It should be clarified, however, that Cink’s putt did not win $25,000 in tuition for a Georgia Tech student. The student missed his own try that would have earned him the prize.
