Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

Feb. 22, 2017

THE FLATS – Ollie Schniederjans and Cameron Tringale made significant moves in their FedEx Cup Playoff hopes last weekend, earning top-10 finishes, while Matt Kuchar and Stewart Cink also posted solid performances at the Genesis Open, the last stop on the West Coast Swing on the PGA Tour.

Schniederjans and Tringale both tied for eighth place at Riviera Country Club, posting 54-hole totals of 10-under-par 274. Schniederjans jumped to 35th in FedEx Cup points, a rise of 17 positions, while Tringale went from 134th to 90th. The top 125 at the end of the regular season advance to the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Schniederjans posted his third top-10 finish of the year, and second in the last three events. He has broken par in 11 of his last 12 rounds, posting a cumulative score of 27-under-par in those tournaments. The tie for eighth was Tringale’s best finish of the year.

Meanwhile, Kuchar tied for 22nd place at 6-under-par 278, moving up to 83rd in FedEx Cup points, and Cink continued his season-long rally with a tie for 28th place (5-under 279) and move up to spots to 49th.

The PGA Tour begins the Florida Swing this week with the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Richy Werenski returns to action this week, joining Cink, Schniederjans and Tringale in the field.

In the final round of the 2017 Genesis Open, Ollie Schneiderjans knocks his 153-yard approach to 4 feet and drains the putt for birdie on the par-3 16th hole.

In the third round of the 2017 Genesis Open, Cameron Tringale hits his 202-yard tee shot on the par-3 6th hole to 4 feet then makes the putt for birdie.

In the second round of the 2017 Genesis Open, Matt Kuchar holes his third shot from the greenside rough on the par-4 18th hole.

In the opening round of the 2017 Genesis Open, Stewart Cink holes an 18-foot eagle putt on the par-5 1st hole.

Web.com Tour: Three of four former Yellow Jackets made the cut at least weekend’s Panama Claro Championship in Panama City, led by Nicholas Thompson, who tied for 19th and held his position at ninth place in Web.com Tour earnings. The top 25 at the end of the season will earn their PGA Tour cards, and Thompson has put himself in good position to regain his after recovering from injury which slowed him in 2016. Chesson Hadley, also working to regain his card after struggling in 2016, missed the cut and is 33rd in earnings. The Web.com Tour now takes a month off before resuming in Louisiana in late March.

PGA Tour Champions: Larry Mize posted his best finish of the 2017 season, tying for 10th place last weekend at the Chubb Classic in Naples, Fla. The 1987 Masters champion shot a closing 65 to finish at 9-under-par 207 and rose to 30th in Schwab Cup points. Mize has two top-25 finishes in three events in 2017. The Champions Tour takes a break until March 17 with the Tucson Conquistadores Classic.
