Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

Sept. 6, 2016

THE FLATS – Roberto Castro and Matt Kuchar have advanced to the BMW Championship, the third leg of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs, which begin Thursday at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. Castro tied for 24th last weekend at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston, while Kuchar tied for 46th.

Kuchar fell five spots to 28th in FedEx Cup points, and needs a high finish this week to remain among the top 30 and play in the finale, the Tour Championship, next week at East Lake Golf Club. Castro, who is 53rd in FedEx Cup points, likely needs a top-10 finish at Crooked Stick to have a chance.

Bryce Molder saw his 2015-16 season come to end after finishing in a tie for 53rd at the Deutsche Bank Championship, despite improving to 89th in points. Only the top 70 players advanced to the BMW Championship.

In the second round of the 2016 Deutsche Bank Championship, Roberto Castro hits his 112-yard approach shot on the par-4 1st hole to 12 feet, then rolls in the putt for birdie.

In the final round of the 2016 Deutsche Bank Championship, Matt Kuchar finishes his day with birdie on the par-4 9th hole.

Web.com Tour: Four Georgia Tech alumni, led by Richy Werenski, who ranks No. 2 in earnings on the Web.com Tour this season, and Ollie Schniederjans, who ranks No. 6, begin play this weekend in the Web.com Finals at the DAP Championship at the Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio. It is the first of four events that culminates in the Web.com Tour Championship, Oct. 6-9 at Atlantic Beach, Fla.

Werenski, who won the BMW Charity Pro-Am in May, and Schniederjans, who won the Air Capital Classic in June, have already received their PGA Tour cards for 2016-17 but can enhance their status (i.e.: get into more events) with high finishes in the Finals.

Former Yellow Jacket Anders Albertson, who finished 55th in earnings on the Web.com Tour this year, Chesson Hadley, who finished 159th in FedEx Cup points on the PGA Tour, and Nicholas Thompson, who missed much of the Web.com Tour season due to injury, will participate in the Finals along with Schniederjans and Werenski. The top 25 players in earnings over the four-event Web.com Finals will earn PGA Tour cards for 2016-17.

Players who finished among the top 25 in regular-season earnings, while having earned their PGA Tour cards, are still playing for different levels of status with their performance in the Finals. The player who finishes the Finals No. 1 in combined regular-season and Finals earnings will be fully exempt on the PGA Tour in 2016-17.

PGA Tour China: Shun Yat Hak, who helped Georgia Tech reach the semifinals of the NCAA Championship when it was held in Atlanta in 2013, notched his best finish of the season, a tie for eighth place at the Yulongwan Yunnan Open. His 13-under-par total of 271, which began with a first-round 63, netted him ¥36,000 and increased his season take to ¥59,829, good for 38th place on the tour’s order of merit.
