Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

July 19, 2016

THE FLATS – Three Georgia Tech alumni finished among the top 20 at last weekend’s Barbasol Championship, with Roberto Castro and Chesson Hadley matching each other virtually stroke-for-stroke to tie for 11th place at the Grand National Golf Club on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Opelika, Ala.

Castro, 48th on the FedEx Cup points list, and Hadley shot matching rounds of 67-66-69-69 to finish at 13-under-par 271, and played in the same threesome in both rounds 3 and 4. Cameron Tringale fired a closing 65 (-6) to tie for 20th place at 12-under-par 272, while Troy Matteson, who was on the Georgia Tech team that lost a playoff for the NCAA Championship at the Grand National Lake Course in 2000, tied for 62nd place at 5-under 279.

Meanwhile, Matt Kuchar looked to be in contention entering the weekend with rounds of 71-68 at the 145th Open Championship at Royal Troon, but fell back with rounds of 75-76 to tie for 46th.

The Tour moves North of the border this weekend for the RBC Canadian Open, where Kuchar joins Castro, Hadley, Tringale, Stewart Cink and Bryce Molder at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario. Cink and Kuchar both earned top-10 finishes last year.

In the second round of the 2016 Barbasol Championship, Chesson Hadley sinks a 35-footer for birdie and celebrates on the par-4 9th hole.

In the third round of the 2016 Barbasol Championship, Roberto Castro hits his 146-yard second shot on the par-4 10th hole to a foot.

Web.com Tour: Ollie Schniederjans continued to solidify his place among the top-25 earners on the Web.com Tour by tying for 21st place last weekend at the Lincoln Land Championship, maintaining his third-place standing and setting a course-record 62 in the second round. Kyle Scott tied for 39th place, giving him two good weeks in a row after a difficult start to his rookie season. Richy Werenski, despite missing the cut, is still No. 2 in earnings, while Anders Albertson is 46th. The group was featured in a PGA Tour Insider piece.

Following his second-round 62 at the 2016 Lincoln Land Charity Championship, which set the course record, Ollie Schniederjans talked about his excellent play, and how his game has improved playing on the Web.com Tour.

SwingThought.com Tour: Bo Andrews (282, -6) tied for 12th place and Drew Czuchry (285, -3) tied for 14th to earn checks at last weekend’s Grand Island Club Classic in Albany, Ga.

Amateur update: All four Yellow Jackets – Michael Hines, Tyler Joiner, Kris Mikkelsen, Luke Schniederjans – who qualified for the 100th Georgia State Amateur, held last week at the Capital City Club, advanced through stroke play and made the 32-player match-play field. Mikkelsen, a 2002 Tech graduate, and Schniederjans, an incoming freshman, advanced to the semi-finals before they were defeated.
