THE FLATS – Veteran PGA Tour star Stewart Cink earned his first top-25 finish of the season, and nearly his best finish in more than a year when he tied for 15th place at last weekend’s Shriner’s Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas, Nev.
The six-time winner on the PGA Tour got steadily better over the course of the weekend, firing rounds of 70-68-67-66 for a 15-under-par total of 271. Only his tie for 14th at the Wyndham Championship in his final event of the 2015-16 season was better as he limited his schedule to be with his wife, Lisa, as she undergoes treatment for breast cancer.
Cink, who finished outside the top 125 in FedEx Cup points last season, is playing on a career earnings exemption for the 2016-17 season, and last weekend surpassed $34 million in career earnings on the PGA Tour.
Cameron Tringale also made the cut at the Shriners, tying for 31st after posting a 10-under-par score of 274.
Both players are in the field for this week’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen, Mexico along with Web.com Tour graduates Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski.
Been away for quite a while (6 months since @lisacink's diagnosis) but I miss my people so I'm coming back in!

Champions Tour: Larry Mize, in his eighth year on the PGA Tour Champions, fell short in his attempt to reach the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. The 1987 Masters Champion tied for 48th at last weekend’s Dominion Charity Classic, leaving him in 44th place in the Schwab Cup standings. The top 36 qualified for the season-ending championship event this weekend in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Mize qualified for the playoffs on the heels of a strong finishes in late in the regular season that lifted him from 63rd to 39th on the Schwab Cup points standings. He finished third in each of the last two regular season events, and has three top-20 finishes in majors this year, his best work in more than four years.
