THE FLATS – This weekend’s Web.com Tour Championship represents the last shot for three Georgia Tech alumni to earn PGA Tour cards for the 2016-17 season. The last event of the four-week Web.com Tour Finals, coming after a one-week break, gets underway Thursday in Atlantic Beach, Fla.
Despite solid performances the first week of the Finals, Chesson Hadley (tied for 68th) and Nicholas Thompson (71st), need big finishes this weekend in order to finish among the top 25 in Finals earnings. Anders Albertson, who finished 55th in regular-season money and has full status on the Web.com Tour for 2017, has not made a cut in the Finals.
Richy Werenski and Ollie Schniederjans, who finished second and sixth in the regular season and have already earned their PGA Tour cards for next season, can enhance their status (i.e.: get into more events) with high finishes in the Finals.

Ryder Cup – Matt Kuchar made a big contribution to Team USA’s winning effort at the Ryder Cup last weekend in Chaska, Minn., winning two of his three partner matches and going 2-2 overall. He improved his career record in four Ryder Cup matches to 6-7-2.
He teamed with Dustin Johnson to blast Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters, 5 and 4, in Friday morning foursomes, then partnered with Phil Mickelson to grab a 2 and 1 victory over Martin Kaymer and Sergio Garcia in Saturday afternoon’s fourball session. In Sunday singles, he succumbed to Kaymer, 1-up, after taking a three-hole lead on the front nine.
