THE FLATS – Luke Schniederjans, ranks No. 51 nationally in the class of 2016 by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and the younger brother of Yellow Jackets’ All-American Ollie Schniederjans, has signed a letter-of-intent to enroll and play golf at Georgia Tech, head coach Bruce Heppler announced Friday.
An all-state performer in Georgia in 2014 and 2015 at Harrison High School, Schniederjans helped the Hoyas to three class AAAAAA regional titles from 2013 to 2015. He graduated from Harrison before his senior season. On the junior circuit, Schniederjans is ranked No. 110 nationally among all classes, No. 6 in Georgia in his class, having earned four victories in junior events and 18 top-10 finishes overall in the last three years.
In 2016, Schniederjans has won the Amelia Island Junior Open in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, tied for seventh at the Florida Azalea Amateur and tied for 19th at the Puerto Rico Junior Open, an American Junior Golf Association event.
“I’m really excited to add Luke to this 2016 class,” said Heppler. “He has certainly grown physically over the past year and his results show a direct correlation. He graduated early and is using the time to work out, take college courses, and develop his game so he can impact the program in the fall. This 2016 class has some very strong resumes and should push the program upon their arrival. I’m excited to see what this group will achieve during their careers.”
Schniederjans follows two older brothers to Tech – Ollie, who was a first-team All-American and Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015, and Ben, a pitcher on the Yellow Jackets’ baseball team, currently sidelined after undergoing elbow surgery. He is the fourth member of Tech’s 2016 signing class, joining Andy Ogletree of Little Rock, Miss., ranked No. 11 nationally, Anton Serafini of Lake Mary, Fla., who enrolled for spring semester in January, and Tyler Strafaci of Davie, Fla., ranked No. 6 nationally.
Heppler’s squad, which has won six of the last eight Atlantic Coast Conference championships and has reached NCAA Championship match play three of the last five years, has no seniors on this year’s unit.
