@GT_Golf - #ProJackets Update

July 7, 2015

THE FLATS – Bryce Molder earned his second top-10 finish of the year and first since the season-opening Frys.com Open last fall with a tie for sixth place at The Greenbrier Classic last weekend in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

The only one of three Yellow Jackets in the field to make the cut, Molder held a share of the 54-hole lead after firing rounds of 64-67 in the middle two rounds. The 2001 Tech grad was unable to approach that on Sunday, however, playing an even-par round of 70 to finish two shots out of a four-man playoff (11-under-par 269). It also cost him one of the four available qualifying spots for the Open Championship.

Molder has made 13 cuts this year and earned more than $845,000, and currently stands 89th in FedEx Cup points.

He’ll get one last chance to earn a spot in the Open this weekend, teeing it up along with Roberto Castro, Stewart Cink, Chesson Hadley, Troy Matteson and Nicholas Thompson at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill. One additional spot is available to the leading player (not otherwise exempt) who finishes in the top five and ties.

Kyle Scott earned his second Web.com Tour paycheck last weekend with a tie for 36th place at the Nova Scotia Open (278, -6). The 2011 Tech grad is 2-for-2 in cuts made on the Web.com Tour, and has also played events on the eGolf and SwingThought.com Tours.

James White, Jr., won a small 18-hole event Sunday on the SwingThought.com Tour by shooting 66 at Callaway Gardens Mountain View course, while Seth Reeves, back in the United States after a month on the European Challenge Tour, shot 68 and finished fourth. Reeves shot 66-64 to win the companion event held Monday and Tuesday.

Former Tech players have accumulated more than $6.1 million in PGA Tour earnings this season, and five Yellow Jackets are currently among the top 125 in FedEx Cup points, which gets them into the first event in the playoffs. Matt Kuchar leads the group at No. 30, followed by Cameron Tringale (44), Chesson Hadley (68), Bryce Molder (89), Nicholas Thompson (111). Stewart Cink holds 127th place.

Open Championship update

Five Tech alumni — Stewart Cink, David Duval, Matt Kuchar, Ollie Schniederjans and Cameron Tringale — are exempt into the 2015 Open Chmpionship at St. Andrews, Scotland. Cink and Duval remain exempt as former champions (Duval in 2001, Cink in 2009). Kuchar qualifies via his position among the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, having advanced to the the 2014 Tour Championship and having played in the 2014 Ryder Cup. Tringale qualified after advancing to last year’s Tour Championship. Schniederjans, Tech’s two-time All-American and ACC Player of the Year who graduated in May, has an exemption from having won the Mark H McCormack Medal last year. Schniederjans is already overseas to play in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open this weekend along with Kuchar. After the Open Championship, he will begin playing as a professional.
