THE FLATS – Three former Georgia Tech stars will tee it up this week in an effort to qualify for the 2015 Web.com Tour season. The 106-hole finals begin Thursday and run through next Tuesday at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Kyle Scott (class of 2011), Richard Werenski (2014) and James White (2012) each advanced through two previous stages of 72 holes each to get here. Scott qualified by tying for ninth place at McKinney, Texas, while Werenski, who has won three pro titles since graduating in May, tied for eighth place in Brooksville, Fla. White finished third in Plantation, Fla. James White became the third Georgia Tech alumnus to advance to the finals of the Web.com Tour Qualifying School with a third-place finish at Plantation, Fla., one of three sites conducted last week.
Meanwhile, 2000 graduate Matt Kuchar tied for eighth place at last weekend’s Hero World Challenge (9-under-par 279), an off-season event hosted by Tiger Woods at Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla.
Seth Reeves, a 2014 graduate who failed to advance out of the second stage of Web.com Q-school, tied for 17th place and picked up $3,750 in the eGolf Tour Championship at Hilton Head, S.C.
Kuchar and Cameron Tringale are in the field for this week’s Franklin Templeton Shootout, hosted by Greg Norman, in Naples, Fla. Kychar and former Georgia All-American Harris English are defending their 2013 totle. Meanwhile, Stewart Cink and his son Connor will defend their 2013 title at the PNC Father-Son Challenge at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
