THE FLATS – Troy Matteson and Richard Werenski debuted on the Web.com Tour over the weekend, each making the cut at the Panama Claro Championship in Panama City, Panama.
Matteson, who missed out on PGA Tour status in 2015, finished in a tie for 21st place with an even-par total of 280 (69-71-70-70). The top 25 earners at the end of the year gain PGA Tour status.
Werenski, who graduated from Tech last spring and has already won three pro events, was in contention after 54 holes but closed with an 81 to finish 72nd at 11-over-par 291 (69-72-69-81), while Matt Weibring missed the cut.
The Web.com Tour moves to Bogota, Colombia this week with Paul Haley joining Matteson, Werenski and Weibring in the field.
On the PGA Tour, Matt Kuchar, Stewart Cink and Bryce Molder all made the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Kuchar led the way by tying for 30th place after a 5-under-par 279 (70-70-68-71) performance. Cink tied for 59th (-1, 283), while Molder finished 70th (+1, 285).
Chesson Hadley, Nicholas Thompson and Cameron Tringale missed the cut. All six players slipped slightly in the FedEx Cup rankings, but all remain in the top 125.
Cink, Molder, Thompson and Tringale are all in the field for this week’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego.
