ATLANTA – Led by Chan Wongluekiet’s 69, Georgia Tech’s golf team carded a 3-under-par 285, its best round of the tournament, and finished in a tie for eighth place with Minnesota at the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan.
Tech’s 54-hole total of 880 left it 25 shots behind Florida, which won the tournament with a 9-under-par total of 855 on the 6,931-yard, par 72 River Course at Rio Mar Country Club. The Gators, who shot 289 Tuesday, won by one stroke over Clemson (8-under-par 856), which shot 286.
Second-round leader Oklahoma shot 295 and slipped to third place at 6-under-par 858. Georgia shot 5-under-par 283 Tuesday and moved up to fourth place at 865 (+1), while Oklahoma State shot the day’s best round (7-under-par 281) and moved from 11th place to fifth.
Kevin Larsen and Nicholas Thompson each finished the event tied for 24th individually at 219. Thompson shot a 2-under 70 Tuesday, while Larsen shot 74. Roberto Castro was even par with a 72 Tuesday and finished in a tie for 46th place at 224. Chan Wongluekiet had Tech’s best round of the day with a 3-under 69 and finished in a tie for 57th at 226. Thomas Jordan shot 80 and tied for 70th at 232.
Tech’s next competition is March 12-14 against another top field at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate.
