Haley, a junior playing his first event since the spring of 2008, put together a steady round over the 7,012-yard, par 72 Farm Golf Club. The Dallas, Texas, native posted three birdies and three bogeys and played each nine in even-par 36. Scott, a transfer from West Florida playing his first Division I tournament, birdied five holes on the incoming nine to offset a triple bogey on the way to his 72.

They are four shots off the pace of Mississippi’s Jonathan Randolph, who holds first place by himself after posting a 4-under-par 68. Auburn’s John Stembridge shot a 69, while Lee Knox of Alabama, Ben Martin of Clemson and Paul Woodbury of South Carolina are tied at 70.

The Crimson Tide, ranked fourth in the nation, shot a 1-over-par 289 as a team Friday to take the first-round lead by one stroke over Clemson, South Carolina and Tennessee (all at 290). Chattanooga is fifth at 291, followed by 3rd-ranked Georgia (292) and Auburn (293).

Tech carded a 7-over-par 295, getting a 75 from freshman Bo Andrews and a 76 from sophomore Minghao Wang. Andrews is tied for 31st place, Wang tied for 40th. Junior John-Tyler Griffin posted a 79.

Saturday’s second round begins at 9 a.m. (Tech tees off at 9:50 a.m.), with the final round set for 9 a.m. Sunday.
