Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

Oct. 31, 2017

THE FLATS – Chesson Hadley looks like he’s back on the PGA Tour to stay, if his first two fall tournaments are any indication … Matt Kuchar makes his 2017-18 debut in a WGC event in Shanghai … Second stage qualifying for the Web.com Tour begins this week … all this and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

Hadley, a 2010 Georgia Tech graduate earned his second top-5 finish last weekend at the Sanderson Farms Championship and stands No. 6 in FedEx Cup points. The three-time All-American shot 14-under-par 274 to finish second alone in Jackson, Miss.

Hadley won twice on the Web.com Tour last year, earning his way back onto the PGA Tour with full exempt status after compiling the most combined money for the regular season and Web.com Finals. He tied for third in the Safeway Open, which opened the 2017-18 PGA Tour season in early October, and is a collective 26-under-par over eight rounds, earning $824,000. That’s nearly $300,000 more than his combined haul last season on the Web.com Tour.

In the final round of the 2017 Sanderson Farms Championship, Chesson Hadley from 281 yards hits it to within 5 feet of the flag to setup eagle on the par-5 14th hole.

Following his third-round 68 at the 2017 Sanderson Farms Championship, Chesson Hadley talks about his day and the miss-hit iron that occurred on No. 12.

Meanwhile, two former Tech All-Americans – Troy Matteson and Nicholas Thompson – competed at the Sanderson Farms event on sponsor exemptions, Thompson tying for 65th, and Cameron Tringale tied for 53rd. Matteson and Richy Werenski missed the cut.

Hadley, Tringale and Werenski are back in action this week at the Shriners Children’s Hospital Open in Las Vegas.

Matt Kuchar made his 2017-18 debut last weekend, competing in the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, China. In his first action since the Presidents Cup, Kuchar was in contention for the first three days before slipping to a 78 in the final round and tying for 31st place.

In the opening round of the 2017 Sanderson Farms Championship, Troy Matteson from 96 yards sticks it to within inches for a tap-in birdie on the par-4 15th hole.

In the opening round of the 2017 Sanderson Farms Championship, Nicholas Thompson strikes a lovely putt from 25-feet to card birdie on the par-4 12th hole.

Web.com Tour: Bo Andrews, Drew Czuchry, J.T. Griffin, Vincent Whaley and James White all advanced out of the first stage of qualifying school for the Web.com Tour two weeks ago (their scores and finish are listed below) and will compete in second stage qualifying events this week and next. Two of the five venues hold qualifiers Oct. 31-Nov. 3, and Griffin is in the field at Dothan, Ala., which began Tuesday. The other three sites conduct their qualifiers Nov. 7-10.

Survivors advance to the final stage Dec. 7-10 in Chandler, Ariz., where the top 45 finishers (and ties) earn full status on the Web.com Tour for 2018.
