Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

March 20, 2018

THE FLATS – Matt Kuchar is back in action at the Dell Technologies Match Play … Troy Matteson, Cameron Tringale and Richy Werenski return to competition in the Dominican Republic … Georgia Tech alumni went 3-for-3 in cuts made at last weekend’s Arnold Palmer Invitational … that and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

A veteran and a longtime success at match play, Matt Kuchar returns to action after sitting out the Arnold Palmer Invitational last weekend by participating in the Dell Technologies Match Play Championship in Austin, Texas. The 2000 Georgia Tech graduate made his first splash on the national scene by winning the 1997 U.S. Amateur, and since then has participated in four Ryder Cup and four Presidents Cup matches. He also won the Dell Technologies Match Play Championship (then known at the Accenture match Play Championship, and was played in Arizona) in 2013.

Kuchar is exempt into all the World Golf championship events due to his position in the Official World Golf Ranking (20th). He ranks 96th this week on the FedEx Cup points list, having played in eight events with a high finish of fifth at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Cameron Tringale and Richy Werenski, also absent from the Arnold Palmer Invitational, both are in the field for the PGA Tour’s alternate event, the Corales Puntacana Resort Championship in the Dominican Republic looking to improve their FedEx Cup standing. Tringale stands at No. 168 after making six cuts in 12 events, finishing 25th at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Werenski (No. 158) has missed eight cuts in 13 events, including his last five in a row since his high finish of the year, a tie for 29th at the CareerBuilder Challenge in January.

Troy Matteson, Tech’s 2002 NCAA individual champion and largely retired from competitive golf, is also in the field on a sponsor’s exemption.

It’s an honor to be playing this week in the @APinv. In memory of Mr. Palmer, I’m wearing pink with his signature umbrella. Thank you to @petermillar for making it happen. pic.twitter.com/fi37F1E6xG

In the final round of the 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, Stewart Cink hits his 183-yard approach shot on the par-4 1st hole to 3 feet then makes the putt for birdie.

NCAA bracket boss of our family is @lisacink. 96.3 percentile not too shabby!

The top 25 money earners at the end of the season earn PGA Tour cards for 2018-19. Larry Mize, 65th in earnings this season on the PGA Tpour Champions, also resumes action this week along with the tour at the Raspican Systems Classic in Biloxi, Miss.
