STEWART CINK NAMED VICE CAPTAIN FOR RYDER CUP

United States Ryder Cup Captain Zach Johnson today named Stewart Cink as his fifth and final Vice Captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup, which will take place September 29 – October 1 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.

Johnson previously appointed Steve Stricker, Davis Love III, Jim Furyk and Fred Couples as Vice Captains.

“Stewart is someone I can trust will give me honest and constructive feedback as we head into the final stages of preparing for the Ryder Cup,” said Johnson. “And as everyone saw at The Open Championship this year, he’s still competing at a high level on the golf course. He will play a critical role in our success as we head to Italy.”

This marks Cink’s first stint as a Ryder Cup Vice Captain. The 50-year-old played in five Ryder Cups (2002, ‘04, ‘06, ‘08, ‘10), helping the U.S. team win in 2008 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.

“Competing in the Ryder Cup has been one of the highlights of my entire career and I’m ready to do whatever it takes to help Zach and the U.S. Team retain the Ryder Cup,” said Cink. “I’m honored that Zach would entrust me to play a role in helping make that a reality in Italy.”

TRINGALE LOOKS FOR ANOTHER HIGH FINISH IN LIV GOLF

Riding a successful calendar year 2023 in the LIV Golf Series, Cameron Tringale returns to action on the LIV Golf Series this weekend at The Old White Golf Club at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. Tringale tied for sixth place last time out at the LIV Golf Invitational event in London, posting a 9-under-par score of 204 to finish six shots out of the lead.

Tringale has finished in the top 10 of the last three events in the series, and he has not finished out of the top 20 all season, compiling earnings in excess of $3 million. He has earned individual points in the series in all nine 2023 starts and has a 68.7 stroke average.

The series finished the 2023 campaign in the United States for its final three events.

TRINGALE’S THUMBS-UP CELEBRATION

Cameron Tringale, an American golfer, competes in the LIV Golf. He has had a good PGA Tour career, winning one tournament since becoming a pro in 2009.

Tringale competed in four LIV Golf events last season while playing with Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers. He has returned to Mickelson’s team for the second season and has been enjoying his time on LIV Golf.

The former PGA Tour player is known for his unique thumb celebration on the golf course. Cameron Tringale recently spoke with HyFlyers GC executives about his thumb’s celebration.

SCHNIEDERJANS GRABS ATTENTION WITH ONE-HANDED PUTTING

I remember several years ago when Ollie Schniederjans was supposed to be one of the next big young stars on the PGA Tour. As a junior at Georgia Tech, he’d won five of six tournaments leading into the NCAA Championship and finished second there. Reached world No. 1 in the amateur rankings eventually, and even climbed as high as 77th in the Official World Golf Ranking during his earlier years as a pro.

Still only 30 years old, the man doesn’t need any big-ass hat for a sponsorship. He’s still showing off that sick flow that’ll make most 30-somethings jealous.

Editor’s note: Schniederjans tied for 21st last weekend at the NV5 Invitational, carding four rounds in the 60s for s 16-under-par total of 268.

STRAFACI LOGS TOP-5 FINISH ON CANADIAN TOUR

Putting together his best start-to-finish performance of 2023, Tyler Strafaci shot a closing 67 Sunday and tied for fourth place at the Osprey Valley Open on PGA Tour Canada.

Strafaci, the 2020 U.S. Amateur champion, had a steady round Sunday with four birdies, including two on the par-3s. It was the best finish of the season for Strafaci, who had missed the last two cuts, and vaulted him from 100th to 35th in the Fortinet Cup standings.

Four events remain on the schedule for 2023, including the Windsor Championship this weekend in Ontario.

FOUR JACKETS MAKE THE CUT AT 3M OPEN

Matt Kuchar remains the only Georgia Tech alumnus in the top 70 of the FedEx Cup standings (59th) after last weekend’s 3M Open, where he, Chesson Hadley (126th), Stewart Cink (166th) and Paul Haley II (134th) also made the cut as the PGA Tour regular season comes down to hits final event this weekend.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs this year includes only the top 70 in points for the first time, while Hadley, Cink, Haley and Richy Werenski (142nd) continue their effort to climb into the top 125, which would ensure their exempt status for 2024.

All five are back in action this weekend at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
