Georgia Tech Golf Signs Three-Time Utah State Champion

ATLANTA (Nov. 10) – Georgia Tech’s top-ranked golf team has signed three-time Utah AAA state champion Jake Ellison to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Bruce Heppler announced today. Ellison is the squad’s only addition during the fall signing period.

Ellison, from Santa Clara, Utah, has starred scholastically in both golf and basketball at Snow Canyon High School. He won individual golf state championships in 1996, ’97 and ’98, and finished fourth this fall during his senior year. In addition, he won all-Region honors as a point guard on the basketball squad a year ago.

“Jake will be a strong addition to our team,” said Heppler, who is in his fifth season at Georgia Tech. “He is a very good student who seized the opportunity to get a great education and contribute to our program. He is a multi-sport athlete who has only concentrated on golf for half a year. Once he commits to golf full time, he should improve tremendously from where he is now because is an extremely competitive athlete.”

Ellison is a previous two-time winner of the Utah Junior Player of the Year award. He qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in both 1998 and ’99 and was a quarter-finalist of that event during the ’98 season. He was also a member of the Utah’s Junior America Cup team in 1998 and ’99. Ellison placed sixth in the Independent Insurance Agents National Junior Tournament in ’98 and ’99 and was ninth in the Junior World Tournament in San Diego, Calif., in ’98.

He is a member of the National Honor Society and an honor roll student at Snow Canyon High School.
