Christo Lamprecht to Play in 2022 Palmer Cup

Norman, Okla. – Georgia Tech sophomore Christo Lamprecht, who rose to be ranked No. 7 among international collegiate players under consideration, has been selected to be a member of the International team for the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup. The annual competition will be hosted by Golf Club de Genève July 1-3, 2022 in Vandœuvres, Switzerland.

The top six golfers from the spring’s final ranking from both the United States and International men and women are automatic selections. The remaining six spots for the United States consist of five committee picks, including at least one non-Division I golfer, and a coaches’ pick. The balance of the International team also includes five committee selections, including at least one representative from The R&A Student Tour Series, and a coaches’ pick.

Lamprecht has posted five top-10 finishes in nine events this year, including ties for fourth at The Calusa Cup (214, -2), eighth (203, -7) at The Goodwin and second at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (205, -11) in Tech’s last three tournaments this spring. He tied for 42nd at Tech’s spring opener (Amer Ari Intercollegiate) and 23rd at the Watersound Invitational. In the fall, Lamprecht was runner-up at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate with a program-record 54-hole score of 194 (-16), tied for 10th at the Windon Memorial and 14th at the Hamptons Intercollegiate.

The sophomore from George, South Africa, tops among the Jacket regulars in stroke average at an even 69.89 over 27 rounds and is currently Tech’s highest-ranked player in the college golf – No. 26 by Golfstat and No. 31 the Golfweek/Sagarin Index. He Holds a 10-12-3 head-to-head record against the nation’s top 20 collegiate golfers as ranked by Golfstat.

The 6-foot-8 Lamprecht holds a current ranking of No. 71 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and No. 55 in the Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking.

Using Golfstat’s NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awarded bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.

Lamprecht will become the 11th different Georgia Tech golfer to compete in the annual competition, and the first to represent the International team. He represented his home country in the 2021 Spirit International which was held in Trinity, Texas, as well as the 2017 and 2019 Junior Presidents Cup matches.

Lamprecht has represented his home country of South Africa in international competition three times, including the 2021 Spirit International.
