Castro Ties for Fourth at Isleworth, Tech 12th

Oct. 24, 2006

Roberto Castro shot a two-over-par 74 Tuesday on a day when scores soared, and the Georgia Tech senior tied for fourth place, two shots off the pace, at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.

Georgia Tech, the nation’s 18th-ranked team, posted a team total of 308 Tuesday and finished the tournament at 39-over-par 903, 27 shots behind Texas. The Longhorns, one of only two teams to break 300 as a team Tuesday, shot 297 and took a 12-stroke victory over Florida. Texas A&M finished third, followed by defending national champion Oklahoma State and Georgia.

As temperatures in the Orlando area dipped to a record low 50 degrees after having been as warm as 91 degrees for Sunday’s opening round, Castro played his front nine (beginning at No. 10) in two-over-par and his back nine even-par. His 54-hole total of 218 (two-over-par) was two shots off the pace of Georgia’s Brian Harman, who carded a 75 Tuesday and finished at even-par 216.

Castro’s finish was the first top-10 performance by a Tech player this fall.

Cameron Tringale shot 77 Tuesday and tied for 25th overall at 224, while Taylor Hall tied for 53rd at 230 following a third-round 76. David Dragoo finished in a tie for 66th after an 83 Tuesday, and Adam Cohan finished 87th after an 81.

Tech has finished its fall schedule for team events, but senior Kevin Larsen and Tringale will compete in the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, Nov. 19-21, in El Paso, Texas.
