Castro Tied for 36-Hole Lead at Isleworth

Oct. 25, 2004

ATLANTA – Roberto Castro shot rounds of 69 and 68 and is in a three-way tie for the lead after two rounds of the Isleworth Invitational at Windermere, Fla., while third-ranked Georgia Tech is two shots off the team lead heading into Tuesday’s final round.

The tournament is being played at the 7,426-yard, par 72 Isleworth Country Club, home course to the PGA Tour’s Tiger Woods, Mark O’Meara and others, and is the first competitive event to be played on the course.

Castro, a sophomore from Alpharetta, Ga., is tied with Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State and Matt Every of Florida at seven-under-par 137, one shot ahead of Georgia’s Chris Kirk and two ahead of Wake Forest’s Kyle Reifers. Castro already has two top-10 finishes this fall and has shot five of his eight competitive rounds in the 60s.

After a poor morning round of 296 in which they counted a 75 and a 78, Tech stormed back in the afternoon with the best round of the tournament thus far (five-under-par 283) to get back within 36-hole leader Georgia. The Bulldogs led the morning round with a 287 and are at one-over-par 577 for two rounds, while the Jackets are at three-over 579. The Cowboys are three shots behind Tech at 582, with Kentucky in fourth place (587) and Wake Forest in fifth (588).

Nicholas Thompson, a senior from Coral Springs, Fla., is tied for ninth place at even-par 144 after rounds of 74 and 70 on Monday. Chan Song, a senior playing in his hometown, is tied for 23rd at 148 (75-73), and junior Mike Barbosa, from St. Petersburg, Fla., is tied for 27th at 150 (78-72).
