White, King Named Capital One Academic All-Americans

ATLANTA – Golf and tennis All-Americans James White and Kevin King each were named Friday to the Capital One Academic All-America Men’s At-Large team chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America. White was named to the second team, and King made the third team.

A total of 45 student-athletes in those sports are named to the first, second and third teams. Student-athletes are eligible for consideration in the sports of golf, tennis and swimming and diving if they maintain a minimum 3.2 grade-point average for their academic careers.

White is one of four golfers to be honored, while King is one of six tennis players named.

White, the nation’s 19th-ranked player and the winner of the Byron Nelson Award, also is a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree. He earned first-team All-America honors in 2011 and was named the ACC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in golf. This year, he has five top-10 finishes this year and a stroke average of 70.9, which ranks fourth in the ACC. The Acworth, Ga., native led the Yellow Jackets to an ACC Championship for the fourth consecutive year in 2012, and a berth in the NCAA Championship for the 15th straight year. He graduated May 5 with his degree in Management and a 3.63 cumulative grade-point average.

King, a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and a 2011 All-American, played in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, and finished the spring ranked No. 26 in singles and No. 4 in doubles. He compiled a 28-10 singles record for the year, won the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional and advanced to the USTA/ITA National Indoor quarterfinals. The left-hander finished his career with an 80-41 singles record, and was a part of 87 doubles victories, a school record. A native of Peachtree, Ga., he carried a 3.75 GPA in Mechanical Engineering.
