Tringale Ties for Eighth at Morris Williams Golf

ATLANTA – Freshman Cameron Tringale shot 74 Tuesday and earned a tie for eighth individually, while fourth-ranked Georgia Tech posted a team score of 299 to tie for 10th at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.

Tringale, from Laguna Niguel, Calif., earned the third top-10 finish in eight events this year, posting scores of 70-70-74 for a two-under-par total of 214 at the Austin Country Club. He tied with Oklahoma State’s Pablo Martin, five shots behind medalist Oscar Alvarez of Brigham Young, who closed with a 72 for a six-under-par score of 209.

Oklahoma State (14-under-par 850), the nation’s No. 2-ranked team, ran away with the team title by posting a four-under-par 284 in the final round. Four Cowboys finished among the top 10 individuals, lifting OSU to a nine-stroke victory over Texas Tech (859). BYU finished third, Texas fourth and Oklahoma fifth.

Tech was tied with Stanford and SMU.

Junior Kevin Larsen posted his second straight 74 for the Jackets, finishing at five-over-par 221 to tie for 36th place. Mike Barbosa added another 74 for Tech Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 63rd, while Roberto Castro carded a 77 and tied for 57th.

Tech’s next action comes Monday and Tuesday in the inaugural United States Collegiate Championship, hosted by the Yellow Jackets and The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
