Tringale, Hadley Entered in Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic

Nov. 18, 2007

Georgia Tech’s Cameron Tringale and Chesson Hadley are part of an elite field of All-America golfers who will begin competition Monday at the 33rd annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso.

Thirty collegiate All-Americans from 2006 will begin play in the 54-hole event at 10 a.m. ET at the El Paso Country Club. Tringale will tee off at 10:24 a.m., Hadley at 10:32 a.m. The tournament, hosted by the Sun Bowl Association, is played at the Par-71, 6,817-yard El Paso Country Club.

Tringale, a second-team All-American two straight years, and Hadley, an honorable mention All-American in 2006, have paced Georgia Tech’s golf team to a fine fall season. The Yellow Jackets recorded one runner-up finish and two third-place finishes in four team events, while the two individuals posted four top-10 finishes between them.

Hadley, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., led the squad in stroke average (69.78) and won the Carpet Capital Collegiate in September. He has finished in the top 10 of six consecutive events dating back to last spring. Tringale, a junior from Laguna Niguel, Calif., tied for third at the Brickyard Collegiate for his best fall finish, and posted a 73.33 stroke average.

Throughout the years, many Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic competitors have gone on to pursue successful careers in the Professional Golfers’ Association of America and on the PGA Tour. Some of the past champions include three Georgia Tech players — David Duval (1991), Matt Kuchar (1999) and Nicholas Thompson (2004).

Each university is awarded a $1,000 scholarship if a golfer from that school competes in the tournament.
