Tringale Falls in First-Round Match at U.S. Amateur

Aug. 22, 2007

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s Cameron Tringale, who earlier in the day had survived a 17-man playoff to secure a spot in match play, lost his first round match Wednesday to Josh DuPont of Poway, Calif., in 19 holes at the United States Amateur Golf Championship in San Francisco, Calif.

Tringale, from Laguna Niguel, Calif., rallied from a two-hole deficit in the last four holes, posting a birdie at No. 15, then a par at No. 18 when DuPont bogeyed, to square the match. But the Tech junior bogeyed the first extra hole while DuPont made par to advance.

A two-time All-American at Tech, Tringale shot 71-76 in the stroke-play competition at the Olympic Club, tying for 59th place. He then made par and birdie in the playoff to advance and capture the 59th seed for match play.
