ATLANTA – Georgia Tech has signed the top-ranked junior golfer in the state of Georgia, Seth Reeves of Duluth, to a letter-of-intent, Tech head coach Bruce Heppler announced Wednesday.
Reeves, who attends Peachtree Ridge High School, is ranked No. 19 among 2009 seniors and 30th in the nation among all junior golfers according to the Junior Golf Scoreboard.
Reeves has picked up 24 top-20 performances in tournaments during his junior career, including a runner-up finish at the USGA Boys Junior Qualifier in 2008, a fourth-place finish at the 2008 Horseshoe Bend Junior Classic, and a seventh-place finish at the 2008 Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational. He has helped Peachtree Ridge win three consecutive 7-AAAAA regional championships in Georgia and make three straight trips to the AAAAA state championship. He earned all-state honors in 2008 and was runner-up to current Tech freshman James White for state medalist honors.
“In Seth Reeves we feel like we have signed the best player in the state (of Georgia) for the second year in a row,” said Heppler, who has James White of Acworth as a freshman on this year’s team. “He had a tremendous summer from the middle of June on, and played at a level that allowed him to compete successfully against the best players in the country. His confidence has grown a great deal over the past year, and with nine months to go before he arrives on campus, he is preparing himself in every way for next fall. His commitment to improving is exceptional.”
Earlier in the day, Tech signed the No.2-ranked golfer in the state of North Carolina, Bo Andrews of Raleigh. Andrews, who attends Ravenscroft High School, is No. 56 among 2009 seniors and 86th among all junior golfers.
