ATLANTA (Nov. 23) – Georgia Tech senior Matt Kuchar (Lake Mary, Fla.) won a playoff on the third hole of sudden death to capture the Savane College All-America Golf Classic Tuesday at the par 71, 6,781-yard El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Texas. Kuchar defeated Brigham Young’s Andy Miller to capture the championship.
Kuchar shot a 1-over-par on the final day to finish at 69-67-72-208, as Miller finished a 67-74-67-208 to force the playoff. Both players parred the first two playoff holes and Kuchar drove his tee ball down the fairway on the third hole, while Miller pushed his drive into a fairway bunker. Kuchar was able to reach the green in two and then nailed a downhill 15-foot putt to win with a birdie.
Junior Bryce Molder (Conway, Ark.) placed seventh after shooting a 72-72-70214 to end the tournament 1-over-par. U.S. Amateur Champion David Gossett and Clemon all-America John Engler tied for third at 4-under, while Derek Gillespie of Arizona and Ryan Vermeer of Kansas tied for fifth at 3-under.
