Tech Moves Up to 3rd at Brickyard Collegiate

Oct. 6, 2012

THE FLATS – Anders Albertson and Ollie Schniederjans each shot 1-under-par 71 on Saturday, helping 15th-ranked Georgia Tech move up two spot to third place after 36 holes of the Brickyard Collegiate golf tournament.

Live scoring and tee times

The Yellow Jackets shot a team score of 290 (+2) on the 7,175-yard Brickyard at Riverside Course, a shot higher than the opening round Friday but better than all but three teams in the 15-team field Saturday. First-round leader Georgia, ranked fourth nationally, posted an even-par score of 288 and maintained a seven-stroke lead over Virginia Tech, which shot the best round of the day at 286 (-2).

The Bulldogs have a 36-hole score of 568, eight shots under par, while the Hokies are at 1-over-par 577, and the Yellow Jackets are at 579 (+3). North Florida is in fourth at 582 (+6), followed by Princeton (+7), Oklahoma (+9), Mercer and Colorado State (+10), Kansas (+11) and Augusta State (+13).

Bo Andrews and Seth Reeves each added 74s (+2) for Tech Saturday.

“We played the hard holes extremely well today, but we need to clean up some things,” said Tech coach Bruce Heppler. “We had a chance for a very good round and hope things will come together tomorrow.”

Albertson is tied for 10th place individually at 1-under-par 143, five strokes behind Princeton’s Quinlan Prchal, who has a pair of 69s and a one-shot lead over Jonathan Gray of Georgia State and T.J. Mitchell of Georgia. Schniederjans is tied for 15th place at even-par 144, and Reeves is tied for 20th at 145 (+1).

Richard Werenski has not counted either day for Tech with rounds of 78 and 77. Freshman Michael Hines, playing individually, followed his opening 69 with a 77, while sophomore Drew Czuchry, also playing as an individual, has rounds of 74 and 73. Both players are tied for 32nd place.

The final round is scheduled to begin Sunday morning.
