Rosters, Pitching Matchups For White-Gold Series

Oct. 16, 2014

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech baseball team has announced its intrasquad rosters for the annual White-Gold Series that begins Saturday at 1 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Games 2 and 3 of the best-of-three series are set for Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 4 p.m. Admission is free to all three games.

The White Team, led by volunteer assistant coach Tony Plagman, includes five of Tech’s eight returning positional starters in C Arden Pabst, 2B Thomas Smith, SS Connor Justus, 3B Matt Gonzalez and OF Ryan Peurifoy.

Keenan Innis and Cole Miller, both recovering from injury-plagued 2014 seasons, will start along with Peurifoy in the outfield. The lone rookie in the lineup is 1B Trevor Craport, a Norcross native.

The Gold Team, under the direction of assistant coach Bryan Prince, features four returnees in the field — C A.J. Murray, SS Brandon Gold, LF Grant Wruble and CF Daniel Spingola.

The newcomers in Gold’s lineup are 1B Kel Johnson, 2B Wade Bailey, 3B Blake Jackson and RF Coleman Poje.

Saturday’s pitching matchup features a pair of lefties in junior Jonathan King for the White Team and sophomore Ben Parr for Gold. King is on the rebound after missing much of 2014 with an injury, while Parr is coming off a strong rookie campaign that saw him go 5-4 with a 2.62 ERA in 10 starts. Sophomore right-handers Matthew Gorst (White) and Zac Ryan (Gold) get nod in Game 2, while Matt Phillips (White) and Ben Schniederjans (White) are in line for Monday’s Game 3.

The annual White-Gold Series marks the end of fall practice for Georgia Tech baseball and will be the final live action for the Yellow Jackets until preseason practice begins in mid-January.
