2015 (Freshman): A freshman all-America selection by both Louisville Slugger and D1Baseball.com … Also a freshman all-ACC pick … Competed in the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in July 2015 and reached the semifinals after belting a Home Run Derby record 17 homers in the first round … Hit .298 for the season (.314 in ACC play) with nine doubles, a triple and 10 homers — which led all ACC freshmen … Was off to a red-hot start and among the ACC leaders with a .379 average (.467 in ACC play) before suffering an ankle injury on March 21 vs. North Carolina that caused him to miss 13 games … Slugged .570 for the year, which was second on the club … Drove in 34 runs and scored 24 … Accounted for five of Tech’s game-winning RBIs and scored three game-winning runs … Pounded out four hits as the cleanup hitter, including a double and a home run, and finished with three RBIs and two runs scored in his first collegiate game on opening day against St. John’s … Continued his red-hot hitting through the rest of opening weekend, going 8-for-14 with five RBIs, four runs, three doubles and two home runs … Earned ACC Player of the Week honors following opening weekend, becoming the first freshman to win ACC Player of the Week honors on opening weekend since Mike McGee of Florida State in 2008 … Walloped his first career grand slam off the scoreboard in left field at Georgia Southern to flip a 4-1 seventh-inning deficit into a 5-4 advantage in Tech’s 7-4 victory … Was Tech’s first freshman to hit a grand slam since March 7, 2009, when Matt Simonds accomplished the feat against Maryland … Stretched his hitting streak to seven games at the Baseball at the Beach weekend with four hits, four RBIs, a double and a home run … Picked up his second game-winning RBI in as many games by drawing a bases-loaded full-count walk to give Tech a 10-9 lead in the ninth against Florida International … Caught fire against Notre Dame, going 7-for-12 in three games, including four RBIs, a double, a triple and a home run … Recorded multiple hits in each game against the Irish … Cleared the bases in the eighth with a three-run triple to seal an 11-7 win over ND on March 7 … Blasted his sixth home run of the season to give Tech a 2-1 lead against Georgia Southern on March 10 and added a double with three walks … Scored a career-best three runs vs. the Eagles … Delivered the game-tying RBI single with two outs and two strikes in the ninth inning of Tech’s 7-6 victory over Kennesaw State on March 17 … Hit .500 (5-for-10) in the series against North Carolina before suffering an ankle injury in the finale and missing 13 games (nine ACC contests) … Returned to action as a pinch hitter on Friday, April 17, at Boston College, but was hampered by injury for the remainder of the year … Recorded his first career multi-home run game in a 10-2 win against Presbyterian on May 3 … Drew a game-tying bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning of 9-7 win over Mercer on May 6 … Went 5-for-9 with four RBIs and four runs scored in the series win over Pittsburgh … Named to the all-ACC academic team.
Before Tech: Five-year player for the Home Plate Citadels, a home-school team, coached by Esteban Maldanado … Served as the team captain in both his junior and senior seasons … Selected to the Team USA U17 roster in 2013 and won a gold medal after defeating Japan in the championship game in Taiwan … Played summer seasons at East Cobb Baseball and won a total of seven national championships … Named the East Cobb Baseball 17U MVP and Offensive Player of the Year for the East Cobb Astros twice … Holds the East Cobb 16U single-season record for home runs with 24 … Recognized as a 2014 Perfect Game all-American … Lists his favorite baseball memory as hitting in the 2013 Youth Select Home Run Derby where he hit 11 home runs in front of 50,000 fans at the New York Mets’ Citi Field … Maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his high school career … Chose Georgia Tech for its proximity to home, the combination of baseball and academics, and because he has always been a huge Georgia Tech fan.
